Jason Forte is set for his PBA comeback via Rain or Shine. Jerome Ascano
RAIN or Shine is set to bring back former Alaska and Air21 import Jason Forte for the PBA Governors Cup after its original choice to replace Dior Lowhorn exceeded the height limit.
According to RoS coach Yeng Guiao, Forte is set to arrive on Thursday and will have one practice with the Elasto Painters before his debut on Friday in a game against Mahindra at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The 32-year-old import got the late call-up after Colorado State alum Greg Smith, who arrived on Tuesday, went over the 6-5 height limit 'by a hair' during the official measurement, according to Guiao.
Forte is no stranger to Guiao, having suited up in two games during the multi-titled coach's brief spell at Air21 during the 2010 Fiesta Conference.
But he was best remembered for two stints with Alaska, leading the Aces to a third-place finish in the 2011 Governors Cup. He later rejoined the Uytengsu organization in the 2012 Governors Cup.
Guiao said Forte was ready to fly in the moment he got the call from Rain or Shine and expressed confidence about his shape after seeing a video sent by the veteran import.
"He looks impressive," said Guiao. "And at least, he's already familiar with the PBA brand of play."
Forte, however, has his work cut out for him upon his arrival as the reigning Commissioner's Cup champions are at 3-4 (win-loss) and just inside the quarterfinal cut line in the season-ending conference.
One thing sure, Forte is excited to return to the Philippines, judging from a tweet he posted after coming to terms with Rain or Shine.
