Henry Walker has nothing but nice words for Elijah Millsap after heated shootout

HENRY Walker won his scoring duel with Elijah Millsap in a battle pitting two former NBA players.

But that didn’t diminish Walker’s respect for his San Miguel Beer counterpart, who led the Beermen to the semifinals of the PBA Governors Cup with a 114-110 win over NLEX on Friday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Walker outscored Millsap, 45-39, behind 7-of-12 shooting from beyond the arc, and grabbed more rebounds than the SMB import, 17-11.

Somehow, he couldn’t carry the Road Warriors by his lonesome as the Beermen played with the poise and experience of a champion down the stretch.

“I don’t want to take anything away from them, but they played their ass off for the day, they earned it, and they won,” he said of the Beermen.

He also had some nice words too, for Millsap, the 29-year-old native of Louisiana who previously played for two seasons with the Utah Jazz.

“He’s talented and he’s pretty good. I have respect for him,” said Walker, who had stints with the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, and the Miami Heat, but never got the chance to play against the San Miguel import.

Walker though had great memories of Elijah’s brother Paul Millsap, who suited up for the Jazz, and is now playing for the Atlanta Hawks.

He describes the older Millsap as ‘super.’

“He’s a super, super brother. He’s super strong, shoot it all,” he said with a hearty laugh. “All the Millsaps are pretty good. I think they got a nice DNA there among the Millsaps.” - SPIN Ph
