This might anger some Celtics fans, but your franchise finally came to their senses and realized that their season has been over for a few weeks now.
We'll have to wait and see what more news comes out from this, but Kyrie Irving has been officially shut down for the rest of the season.
We've been led to believe that he would be able to return to the team at some point and be the savior Boston was looking for, but supposedly the Celtics brass believes that his knee is nowhere near 100% and that rushing him back for the postseason would be a detriment to his health. In the aftermath of left knee surgery, Boston Celtics All-Star guard Kyrie Irving will miss the rest of the regular season and playoffs, league sources told ESPN.— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) April 5, 2018
This should've been the decision from the beginning because nobody has knee surgery this late into a season and can magically be fully healthy when the playoffs roll around. It's just not plausible and the Celtics finally had to come to terms with this harsh reality.
This franchise wouldn't have been happy with just making it to the second round or even the Conference Finals.
They had hopes and aspirations of winning a championship, and for as well as they played without Gordon Hayward, you couldn't truly think this roster had the ability to win this season's NBA title.
They've made the right choice and are now looking towards the future where they can hopefully have both of their stars, that they acquired going into this season, at full strength moving forward. The 2017-18 Boston Celtics. Plus did you really think anyone in the East would actually overtake LeBron James for supremacy of the conference? If you did, I'm sorry because he's going to roll through the East for an eighth straight year. - 12up
